
Getting the Heat Right Without Blinding Your Guests
Let’s be honest: nobody wants to step out of a warm shower and feel like they’re staring directly into the sun. When we design bathroom heating lamps, we’re fighting a bit of a battle. You want that instant, cozy heat to hit your skin the second you step out, but you don’t want a glare that’s harsh on the eyes—especially if there are kids or babies in the room. Here is how we handle that. The trick with the light Standard infrared lamps are blinding. They put out a white light that’s just too much for a bathroom. To fix this, we use a specific kind of doped quartz glass or special coatings. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the lamp. It blocks out the visible light and the nasty UV rays, but lets the heat slide right through. You get all the warmth, but none of the blinding glare. Sure, we lose a tiny bit of efficiency by filtering the light, but it’s a trade-off worth making so you aren’t squinting in your own bathroom. Dealing with steam and splashes Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Between the steam and the occasional splash, things get wet. That’s why we stick to an IP65 rating. It basically means the seals have to be tight and the connectors have to fight off corrosion. If a seal leaks, water hits that scorching hot quartz tube and—snap—the element cracks from the thermal shock. Not a great look. A few tips for the install When you’re wiring these in, keep an eye on the “inrush current.” Halogen filaments are a bit temperamental; they have very low resistance when they’re cold. I’d suggest using a dedicated controller so you don’t fry the filaments by flipping the power on and off too quickly. And one last thing: double-check your fixture’s footprint before you buy. If your R7s or Sk15 connector isn’t seated perfectly flush, you’ll have a gap. Even a tiny gap kills your moisture protection, and that’s how you end up with a broken lamp.Make sure it clicks into place.
