
More Than Just a Heater: Keeping the Mold Out of Your Bathroom
Most of us think of a bathroom heater as that thing you flip on so you don’t freeze when you step out of the shower. But we wanted to do something a bit smarter with our IPX4 splash-proof infrared lamps. Instead of just warming up the air, these lamps actually target moisture. It’s about stopping mold before it even has a chance to move in.
How it actually works
Mold loves two things: stagnant air and damp corners. The problem with regular heaters is that they just warm the air, which often pushes the moisture further into your grout and corners. Our lamps use short-wave radiation. Think of it as heat that doesn’t just sit in the air—it actually penetrates the surface of your tiles and grout. When that energy hits the water molecules, it kicks them into high gear, making them evaporate way faster. It’s a bit like a shortcut for drying. By getting those walls and ceilings dry quickly, you’re basically taking away the food mold needs to grow.
Built for the steam
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are absolute torture for electronics. Between the thick steam and the accidental splashes, most gear just dies. That’s why we built these to IPX4 standards. In plain English? The housing is sealed tight so water can’t get inside, no matter which way it splashes. We also used quartz glass for the filaments. Quartz is great because it can handle jumping from ice-cold to scorching hot without cracking. You get a powerful heat source that won’t short out just because you’re taking a long shower.
A few things to keep in mind
Short-wave infrared is great because you feel the heat the second you turn it on. It’s a simple swap if you’re replacing an old heat lamp. But there’s a catch. Because the light is so intense, it can be a bit blinding if the lamp is mounted too low. You’ll want to angle them just right so you get the warmth without the glare. Also, don’t go overboard with the wattage if you have a tiny bathroom, or you might bake your ceiling fixtures. My advice? Hook it up to a timer. That way, your surfaces get bone-dry, but you aren’t wasting electricity all day.
