Ever turned on a bathroom heater and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? Most of these units use short-wave infrared to get you warm the second you flip the switch. It works great, but there’s a catch. High-wattage quartz lamps can be incredibly harsh. That blinding glare isn’t just annoying—it can actually be tough on the eyes, especially for babies or anyone with a bit of sensitivity. Fixing the glare We didn’t think that was acceptable, so we started using special coatings and filtered quartz glass. Instead of letting all that raw light blast your face, these filters catch the high-energy visible light and UV rays before they leave the lamp. We basically shift the energy over to the medium and long-wave spectrum. You still get that instant, cozy heat, but the light drops down to a soft, gentle glow. Much better for a morning shower. Getting the heat where it belongs Then there’s the way the heat actually moves. If you use a tight parabolic reflector, you get a concentrated beam. That’s awesome for drying industrial parts in a factory, but it’s a nightmare in a bathroom. It creates “hot spots” that can feel like a heat lamp at a buffet. We use a wider angle instead. It spreads the warmth out so it feels even across your skin. And because these things are clicked on and off constantly, we use high-temp ceramics for the wiring and sockets. It stops the connections from frying after a few months of heavy use. The trade-off Now, here’s the honest part: filtering that light isn’t free. Any coating that blocks the glare also eats a tiny bit of the heat energy. You lose a sliver of raw power to make the light safe for your eyes. Because of that, if we’re using heavy filtration, we might bump up the wattage a little. It ensures your bathroom stays warm even if there’s a draft. Just keep in mind that if you’re installing these, your wiring and circuit breakers need to be ready for that extra bit of load.
