
Keeping Your Bathroom Warm Without Blinding Yourself
Ever stepped into a bathroom IR heater and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? Most of these heaters use short-wave radiation to get you warm fast. It works, but that blinding glare is a real problem. If you’ve got a baby or just sensitive eyes, staring at a standard halogen element is a recipe for a headache—or worse, actual eye strain. We figured out a way to fix that by tweaking how the light actually works. The trick is in the coating. Standard IR lamps throw out a ton of energy in the visible light spectrum. It’s bright. Too bright. So, we use specific quartz coatings and halogen gas fills to “tune” the light. By adding a selective absorber coating to the tube, we basically block out the harsh, blinding light but let the heat-carrying infrared waves slide right through. The result? You still get all that cozy warmth, but the light is just a soft, gentle glow. No more squinting. Now, here’s the honest part: you can’t have a totally dark tube that still puts out massive heat. There’s always a trade-off. To make these eye-safe, we lose a tiny bit of thermal efficiency compared to a raw, uncoated tube. But we make up for it by changing the shape of the filament. We’ve designed it to push the heatdowntoward your toes, rather than out into your eyes. When it comes to actually installing these, they’re built for your standard 220V-240V home circuits. We also set the lamps deep inside the reflectors. This creates a physical shield, so even if a curious toddler looks up, they aren’t staring directly at the element. One quick tip for whoever is wiring these up:make sure the housing is vented. Even with the fancy coatings, the inside of that casing gets incredibly hot. It needs to breathe. If you block the airflow, you’re just asking for the components to burn out way too soon.
