The USB Powered Halogen Heater: A Tiny Powerhouse for Tight Spaces
We built this little halogen heater for the folks who need serious heat, but simply don’t have room for a bulky setup. It’s all about packing a big punch into a small footprint, giving you focused, intense warmth exactly where you need it.
What makes it tick?
Here’s the best part: it runs straight off a standard 5V USB port, pulling 100W of power. That means no complicated wiring, and you’re not putting a huge strain on your machine’s power supply. It just plugs in and gets to work. The 150mm tube is designed to concentrate all that heat into one specific spot. You’re not wasting energy warming up the whole room—just the exact area you’re targeting. It’s precise, and that makes a huge difference.
Built to last, and to work
Inside, you’ve got a quartz tube filled with halogen gas. We went with quartz because it can handle wild temperature swings without cracking. The halogen cycle keeps the filament stable, so you get consistent, reliable heat every single time you turn it on. And for the connection, it uses an R7s connector. It’s a standard fit, so you can wire it up quickly and know you’ve got a solid, dependable connection. No fiddling, no fuss.
Where it really shines
This is the go-to when you need heat fast and space is at a premium. Think about localized drying, pre-heating small parts, or keeping a compact process running smoothly. It’s perfect for those spots where a giant heater just won’t fit. But there is one thing to keep in mind. That 100W of power is dense. So you need to manage the heat. Make sure your enclosure has enough airflow or some proper heat sinking. That way, you keep everything running safely and smoothly.
